HealthCare in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's policy on health is simply expressed - the provision of free health services for the benefit of all the citizens of Saudi Arabia. With the importance of adequate health provision for those who need it, both within and outside the Kingdom, the health care industry in Saudi Arabia is growing rapidly and will continue to provide excellent and challenging opportunities for providers. The government of Saudi Arabia continues to provide massive support to existing as well as new projects in order to see that health services are accessible to all people at all levels of care - primary, secondary, and tertiary.
Healthcare is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health, which provides both general and specialized hospital services. Amongst the Kingdom's specialized hospitals, world famous for referrals, teaching and research are the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital etc. These specialized hospitals offer amongst other advanced medical services, open-heart surgery, kidney transplantation, cancer care etc.

The general health service is complemented by other agencies which provide health services for their staff e.g. the Ministry of Defense and Aviation Hospitals, National Guard Hospitals, and Security Forces Hospitals and hospitals of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. There is an active Red Crescent Society in the Kingdom, which provides medical emergency services and plays a key role in providing medical assistance during the period of the annual pilgrimage, the Hajj. The Kingdom's universities are also involved in healthcare, not only by providing primary and specialized healthcare for their own staff and students, but through research, training and the implementation of health education programs.
